"I returned to the schools Friday and was met with great joy.The librarians told me that the teachers and their principals were overjoyed by your presentation. The one principal that said she had never hosted an author visit as a principal was the most thrilled and declared that she will be adding author visits to the curriculum next year. The children, I was told, were still talking about you the next day at school. The teachers had not seen such enthusiasm in the children about illustrations and books before. I believe that your visit to the schools has had a very powerful positive effect on the children and has strongly promoted the desire to read in them." "Ashley Wolff arrived at my school bright and early. She engaged students on the playground as we set up for the day in a nearby classroom. She was wearing her 'butterfly' blazer and talked to each student who greeted her. During the school day she gave three presentations to our kindergarten and first grade students. She began by asking students what they wanted to be when they grew up. She then presented a series of slides that enchanted the students. We saw photos of when she was young and of the drawings she did as a child. She showed students how, as an adult, she puts the people and animals in her life into her illustrations. She stressed the importance of practice. Each presntation concluded with Ashley creating a story using the student's ideas for animal characters and for the plot. She challenged the students to go back to class and finish the story. From start to finish, the day with Ashley Wolff was a success for the teachers, parents, and above all, for the students. We will definitely be inviting her back to our school." Iris King, kindergarten teacher Highland Elementary -Vallejo, CA
"We have many author visits here and Ashley Wolff is one of our favorite authors. Her presentations are engaging and educational. The students are full of questions and enthusiasm for months after her visit. She literally draws ideas out of students and teaches them how to create a story. Not only is she fabulous with the kindergarten-primary crowd, but her conversations with small groups of older students about art and art careers are also rewarding." "Ashley
Wolff has appeared as a visiting author/illustrator in all twenty-one
of our schools, working with students in kindergarten through sixth
grade. Her presentations are visual, delightful, and done with enthusiasm.
She demonstrates both the tools and media with which she works. Her
slides show her illustrations as they develop and are completed. Students
are charmed when she lets them create a story as she illustrates it
on an easel at the end of her presentation."

Ashley's
presentation was a school-wide event that enabled parents, staff,
and students to interact with a "real live" author and illustrator.
From her arrival in the morning and the fascinating class presentations,
lunch with our staff, book signing with parents and students in our
library to the writing in classrooms motivated by her sharing with
students, the day will long be remembered by all involved. Julie
